One of my concerns with going to Palmer would be living in the midwest. I don't have anything against the area (in fact, I hear people are great there), but it is so far from my family. How do you students like it there?

I loved living in the Quad Cities. There are lots of things to do, lots of nice restaurants, and all the modern chains that you see mostly anywhere else.
If possible, you want to live away from the campus - because it's in a crappy neighborhood. The best place to live is in Bettendorf - an easy 10 minute drive away. I lived in Chateau Knoll apartments on Middle Ave., and absolutely loved being there. We were from Pittsburgh, and my wife didn't want to come back home. She fell in love with Iowa.

That's good to know. Thank you for taking the time to answer us. I have heard that the people in the mid-west are very friendly, so that is always nice. Is the neighborhood where the school is safe? or just rundown...???

It's a crappy neighborhood. But it's safe enough to walk to your car and back. There's a lot more to choosing a school than the neighborhood it's in.
Choose a school that you feel is going to be a good fit for your belief systems. If you're interested in going to a school that has a strong basis in traditional chiropractic values (i.e., teaching about subluxations, philosophy, etc...) then Palmer is a good choice. On the other hand, if you want a more medically oriented school, I would recommend NYCC.
